George T. O'Brien
George T. O'Brien has over 40 years of experience in corporate finance, public accounting and business operations having held CPA/ABV, CVA and MST designations and is a founder of G.T. O'Brien, Inc. (formerly O'Brien-Rodgers, Inc.), a professional corporate merger - acquisition and valuation enterprise incorporated in 1994.
In his capacity with G.T. O'Brien, Inc., Mr. O'Brien regularly leads and participates in merger and acquisition transactions, working with private and public company management to maximize operating and transaction value. In a related capacity, he performs expert valuations for corporate finance (merger, acquisition, disposition) activity as well as for estate, gift and litigation purposes. A sample of industries the firm serves includes heavy and light manufacturing, nutraceuticals, direct mail, distribution, publishing, advertising, natural resources, construction, software, value added resellers and professional service firms.
Prior to launching O'Brien-Rodgers, Inc., Mr. O'Brien was president of G.T. O'Brien & Co., PC, a regional certified public accounting firm from 1982 through 1996. Working with owners and financial institutions, Mr. O'Brien, who holds a Masters in Taxation, directed and managed professional auditing, reporting, tax, management consulting and corporate transaction engagements.
The firm of G.T. O'Brien & Co., PC was recognized as providing the highest level of quality service by the AICPA Quality Review Program.
From 1979 to 1982, Mr. O'Brien was Senior Financial Analyst/Assistant International Controller for Fortune 500 - Nashua Corporation (NYSE: NSH) where he coordinated accounting and financial reporting cycles of eight European subsidiaries as well as Bermuda and the Eastern Bloc. Mr. OBrien regularly interacted with international offices, corporate officers, general managers, financial directors, and the corporation's independent auditors on significant tax and business matters impacting foreign operations. He participated in the financial organization of three new European subsidiaries, and from 1980-81, served as Manager, Systems Development in the company's South African operation. In that capacity, Mr. OBrien devised and implemented online computer system controls and coordinated the establishment and integration of the firm's customer database for its first in-house computer system. The conversion required the coordination and training of 200-plus employees in system applications and procedures.
Prior to the South African assignment, Mr. O'Brien planned and executed operations audits and special projects in major worldwide locations, traveling extensively in Europe, South America, Africa and Asia.
After graduation from Georgetown in 1976, Mr. O'Brien held positions at Ernst & Young, LLP. His duties included the planning and budgeting of both public and private company audit engagements, supervision and training of audit staff, preparation of audit programs and on-site review of client operations, plus management letter preparation. His audit client concentration was banking and manufacturing.
